10 February 2023 – #TeamTranslator, a positive and supportive online community for freelance translation professionals that launched in November, has held their very first online meetup.

The meetings, called #TTTeas, aim to bring #TeamTranslator members together to discuss specific topics relevant to their careers. The hope is that by sharing different perspectives and experiences, members can learn from and support one another while building new connections.

The first #TTTea, titled “How you got your start as a freelancer” was centred around the many different ways that members came to their careers in translation. We had a wide range of experience to draw from, from degree holders to some simply “falling into” the profession.

Anikó reflected on this first #TTTea on LinkedIn:

It was great to hear where everyone came to the world of freelance translation! This event showed how colourful our community really is, how many different stories there are.
— Anikó Pető-Mordovski on LinkedIn

Based off the success of the first #TTTea, we (co-founders Anikó Pető-Mordovski and Kelsey Frick) plan to continue the initiative, hosting semi-regular meetings to give members the opportunity to connect live.

We’re encouraging all #TeamTranslator members to get involved. Due to the global nature of the group, we plan on alternating the times that our #TTTeas take place, whether that’s morning, afternoon, or evening, to give people a chance to join no matter where they are in the world.

Kelsey also wanted to make it clear that comfort is priority at these meetups:

Active participation isn’t required. You can just come along, camera off, and sit and listen to learn. You only have to speak if you want to.
— Kelsey Frick

#TTTeas are open to all #TeamTranslator members. If you’re not yet a member, registration is free. Visit our registration page and fill out the survey to join.
